Montana State Skiers Head to Western State Invitational

The Bobcat skiers are coming off a strong sixth place finish at the Colorado Invitational where they were paced by sophomore Cory Harris’ fifth place finish in the men’s giant slalom. Harris climbed from 44th place on Friday to place fifth in the event.
The MSU women were led by senior Mandy Bowden, finishing tenth in the women’s Nordic freestyle, and junior transfer Spela Bertoncelj who placed eleventh in women’s slalom.
This is the second sixth place finish for the Bobcat skiers in the highly competitive 11 school Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association. The Bobcat squad has two meets left this season to qualify skiers for the NCAA championships March 8-11 in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. According to Alpine head coach Dan Brelsford, several MSU skiers could qualify for the NCAA event including Bertoncelj, Harris, and sophomore ChiChi Williams.
Events at the Western State Invite start Friday at Crested Butte with the men’s slalom at 9 a.m. and the women’s giant slalom at 10 a.m. On Saturday, the women’s slalom starts at 9 a.m. and the men’s GS goes at 10 a.m. Friday's Nordic events will start with the skate races, the women will race at 9:30 a.m. and the men’s 10k starts at 11a.m.. Saturday’s Nordic start times will be the same.
