Bobcat Skiers Finish Sixth at CU Invite

MSU sat in seventh place behind the University of Nevada after the Nordic competition last week. The Bobcat alpine contingent had one of its best outings of the winter to surge past the Wolf Pack in the final team standings.
Harris, who started the giant slalom 44th overall, clocked a two-run time of 2:08.93. “What Cory did was pretty phenomenal,” said Bobcat ski coach Dan Brelsford. “It’s almost unheard of, especially on that hill.”
Colorado won the meet with 592 points, followed by New Mexico 544, Denver 531 ½, Alaska-Anchorage 458 ½, Utah 452 ½, MSU 341 ½, Nevada 301, Western State 222, Whitman 135, Wyoming 58 and Boise State 37.
Following Harris in the men’s giant slalom for the Bobcats were Don Brockett, 21st, 2:11.23; and Dan McKay, 28th, 2:25.60.
In the women’s giant slalom, Chi Chi Williams led MSU finishing ninth overall in a two-run time of 2:21.65. She was followed by Crystal Wright 18th, 2:26.57; and Gretchen Glaser, 32nd, 3:48.08. Bobcat frontrunner Spela Bertoncelj did not finish her first run.
Robbie Massie guided the MSU men in the slalom placing 11th overall in a time of 1:28.52. It was Massie’s best collegiate finish as a Bobcat.
He was followed by Brockett, 16th, 1:28.97; Harris, 17th, 1:29.50; Eric Behan, 27th, 1:34.83; and Tyler Smedsrud, 33rd, 1:38.73.
Bertoncelj rebounded from her giant slalom troubles to finish 11th in the slalom. The Boise State transfer had a two-run time of 1:33.20. She was followed by Williams, 19th, 1:35.34; Wright 23rd, 1:40.23; and Glaser, 26th, 1:41.55.
