Montana State Skiers Qualify Six for NCAA Championships

Leading the Bobcats will be transfer Spela Bertoncelj, who posted five top ten finishes in the slalom and giant slalom during the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association season. The junior from Ljubljana, Slovenia had a season-best fourth place finish at the MSU Invitational in January.
Joining Bertoncelj on the alpine side is Cory Harris. Harris, a sophomore from Lake Tahoe, Calif., had his best outing of the season at the University of Colorado Invitational, placing fifth in the giant slalom. In all, Harris paced the Bobcat men with three top 10 finishes.
Four Nordic racers will make the trip to Colorado, led by senior Mandy Bowden. Bowden, a senior from Cumberland, Maine, had three top ten finishes with a season-best sixth place finish in the freestyle event at the Western State College Invite.
Also competing for the women will be freshman Claire Rennie. Rennie, a native of Ottawa, Canada, had a career-best tenth place showing in the freestyle race at Utah.
Seniors Mark Iverson and Chris Coe will represent the men’s Nordic program. Iverson, who will return to his hometown of Steamboat Springs for the NCAA Championship, had a pair of tenth place showings this winter.
Coe, a native of Fairbanks, Alaska, was an NCAA qualifier two years ago. This season, Coe’s best race came at the Western State meet with a tenth place showing in the classical event.
The Bobcats finished 13th at last year’s NCAA Championship.
