MSU Sixth After Day One of NCAA Qualifier

Colorado leads defending national champion Denver by nine points after the opening day of the RMISA Championship/NCAA Western Regional.
In the women’s Alpine events, junior Spelja Bertoncelj led the Bobcat women finishing ninth in the giant slalom with a two-run total of 2:03.84. Other finishers in the GS were Gretchen Glaser (29th), Crystal Wright (30th), and Chinon Williams (44th).
The Alpine men were led by Cory Harris who finished 10th in the GS with a two-run clocking of 1:54.26. Tyler Smedsrud also had a strong showing placing 14th in a time of 1:54.62.
Other MSU results in the men’s giant slalom: Dan McKay (30th) and Don Brockett (31st). Robbie Massie did not finish the race.
Only thirteen seconds separated MSU Nordic teammates Mark Iverson and Christian Coe as the pair placed fourteenth and fifteenth in the men’s 10K event. Iverson led the MSU men with a time of 28:25.3 followed by Coe (28:38.06), Timothy Downey (24th ) at 28:56.45, Nathan Park (31st ) at 29:29.20, and Michael Gleason (32nd) at 29:30.76. The men’s Nordic event was won by Hoye Henrik (University of Colorado) with a time of 26:24.96.
On the women’s Nordic side, MSU was led by senior Mandy Bowden, who placed ninth in the 5K event with a time of 15:53.85. She was followed by Claire Rennie (14th) at 16:08.60, Ine Fahle (19th) at 16:23.45, Karoline Teien (21st) at 16:23.64, Fraiser Opel (26th) at 16:37.47, and Korie Steitz (30th) at 16:52.65. Jana Rehenaa (University of Colorado) paced the women’s field with a time of 14:46.54.
