Bobcats Face Last Homestand

Bobcats will open play against Portland State University, Thursday, Feb. 23 at 7:05 p.m. MSU’s last home contest of the 2005-06 campaign will be Saturday, Feb. 25 at 2:05 p.m. against Eastern Washington University.
On The Air:
All Bobcat games can be heard on 103.5 KZMY-FM. Veteran sportscaster Mark Martello, who has been sidelined for most of the winter, is back on the air. Martello will call both games this weekend. He will begin his pre-game show, which includes head coach Tricia Binford, 20-minutes prior to tipoff.

All other Big Sky schools are ranked in the 200s...Montana State’s 86-80 overtime victory at Sacramento State on Saturday snapped a 10-game road losing steak. Previously, MSU’s last road win was at Portland State, Feb. 24, 2005.
That Was The Week That Was:
The Bobcats split a pair of road games last week, losing at Northern Arizona 84-56, before picking up its first road win of the season with an 86-80 overtime win at Sacramento State. At Northern Arizona, an 8-0 run by the Lumberjacks with two-minutes remaining in the opening stanza proved to be the dagger for the Bobcats. NAU shot 52 percent from the game, while MSU hit at a 46 percent clip. Leading the Bobcats was Jenny Heringer with 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Also in double-digits was Nubia Garcia with 10 points and two rebounds. Freshman Anne Phippard matched a career-high six assists, while adding eight points and five rebounds. MSU got its first road win under head coach Tricia Binford with an 86-80 overtime victory at Sacramento State. Junior Whitney Connolly came off the bench to score a career-high 28 points on 12-of-17 from the field. Also in double-figures for the Bobcats were Heringer 15, Alyssa Nelson 13, Gracia 11 and Scotta Morton 10. Morton led all Bobcats under the boards with a team-high eight rebounds.
Stat of the Week:
Despite giving up a whopping 28 offensive rebounds at Sacramento State, the Bobcats countered the Hornets by shooting 49 percent from the field and connecting on 23-of-32 from the free throw line.

Portland State is 10-13 overall and 4-6 in Big Sky Conference action. Under the direction of second-year head coach Charity Elliott, the Vikings have won two of its last three games, including impressive victories over Eastern Washington and Weber State. In both wins, PSU was paced by center Brianna Thompson, who scored 16 and 24 points, respectively. On the year, Portland State has been paced by Kelsey Kahle- one of the frontrunners for Big Sky Conference Freshman of the Year. A native of Aurora, Ore., Kahle is averaging 16.9 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. Also averaging in double-figures for the Vikings are Thompson and Jenni Ritter at 14.6 and 10.1 points, respectively.
