Lumberjacks Outdistance Bobcat Women

Northern Arizona (18-7, 8-2) broke away from a 30-all tie scoring eight unanswered points in the final 1:48 of the opening stanza to take a 38-30 lead at intermission.
Montana State (2-19, 1-8) closed the gap to 38-33 at the 19:01 mark of the second half, but would get no closer.
The silver-lining for the Bobcats in the loss was the play of the freshmen class. Jenny Heringer led MSU with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Nubia Garcia added ten points. Anne Phippard posted her second consecutive strong showing coming off the bench to tally eight points, six assists and five rebounds.
“We have some upperclassmen nursing injuries and it was nice to see our freshmen step up and contribute,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “They’re gaining a lot of experience and confidence, despite the adversity.”
For the game, the Bobcats shot 46 percent from the field, but committed 25 turnovers.
NAU held a 34-27 advantage in rebounding.
The Lumberjacks were led by Megan Porter and Alyssa Wahl with 14 points, apiece.
MSU will play at Sacramento State at 3:05 p.m. (MST) on Saturday in the Hornet’s Nest.
