“A Night With the Cats” A Big Success
Montana State student-athletes hosted 89 local kids at “A Night With the Cats” on Friday, Dec. 1. Student-athletes and kids enjoyed an evening of crafts, video games and movies, inflatables, snacks, and autographs and pictures at Shroyer Gym. The evening was free of charge and sponsored by the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Fifty-four athletes from various teams spent the evening with local kids while parents got the evening off.
“It went well,” said Camie Bechtold, SAAC Advisor and MSU Associate Athletic Director of Student Services. “The athletes had fun hanging out with the kids and it was a great opportunity for kids to see the athletes outside competition and get to know them better.”

Montana State's first December playoff game in 22 years looked promising through three quarters, but ended in heartbreak in the hills of North Carolina. Receiver Michael Jefferson threw an interception on an end-around pass on the first play of the fourth quarter with MSU trailing by seven points and threatening. That play proved pivotal, as Appalachian State responded with two touchdowns in succession leading to a 38-17 win over the Bobcats. That win extends App State’s home winning streak to 26 games, and moves the team into the Division I Playoffs semifinal round next weekend.

Montana State hits the road this week in hopes of ending a three-game losing streak that began Nov. 26 against Oregon State. The Bobcats travel to Boise State to take on the Broncos, who are coming off a four-point loss to Montana. The Broncos have lost three out of their last four games, but return seven of its top nine players from last season, including the team’s three leading scorers and six of their top eight scorers from last year. Fresno State, unbeaten on the season comes to MSU just one ten days after the Bobcats lost at Fresno, 41-80.

12/2: lost to Wyoming at Billings, 62-73
Fresno State applied the pressure early and often, running away from the Bobcats on Wednesday. Fresno State used suffocating pressure on defense, forcing 27 Bobcat turnovers en route to an 80-41 win over Montana State last Wednesday. The University of Wyoming overcame a 12-point first half deficit to post a 73-62 victory over Montana State, Saturday night at Metra Park in the annual Border War. For the game, the Bobcats shot 43 percent from the field, while the Cowboys hit at a 57 percent clip. UW also held a 31-24 rebounding advantage. MSU was led under the boards by Adrian Zamora with a team-high four rebounds.

The Bobcats host two home games this week against non-conference foes University of Portland and Utah State. Portland is coming off a twenty-point loss to Montana and are 4-4 on the season. Utah State is 2-3 on the season. MSU head coach Trish Binford was a former Utah State assistant before coming to MSU.

Montana State senior Alyssa Nelson recorded a game-high 17 points to lead four Bobcat starters in double-figures as MSU posted a 70-64 victory over PAC-10 opponent Washington State. With the victory, Montana State (3-3) matched last season’s win total. For the game, the Bobcats shot 46 percent from the field, while holding Washington State (1-5) to 33 percent, including an icy 24 percent in the opening stanza. The Cougars held a 43-40 advantage in rebounding.
