Bobcats Fall to Jackrabbits

South Dakota State used an incessant parade to the free throw line and a sloppy Bobcat offense to hold off Montana State 65-62 in Brookings on Friday.
The home-standing Jackrabbits shot 19 free throws more than MSU, an advantage that off-set hot Bobcat three-point shooting, but Montana State coach Brad Huse singled out his team's ball-handling as a deciding factor in the contest.
"We just didn't handle the ball well," Huse said. "We had 19 turnovers. It comes back to taking care of the basketball and giving yourself a chance on every possession, and we didn't do that."
MSU led 36-30 at halftime, but South Dakota State chipped away at the lead throughout the second half with shooting well from the field and frequently from the line. The Jackrabbits finished the game at 46% from the field, 48% in the second half, while shooting just 14-for-27 from the free throw line on the night.
Branden Johnson led the Bobcats with a career-high 16 points, while Nick Dissly added 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Montana State opens Big Sky Conference play on Thursday, December 28, at Eastern Washington.
