Beye Killed in Auto Accident
Former Bobcat basketball player Al Beye died in an auto accident Friday.
Al Beye, who became popular in Bozeman for his basketball skills and beloved for his personality, died in an auto accident in Dillon Friday night.
Beye was visiting his brother, who lives in Dillon. He was a standout center for the Bobcats, finishing his career last spring as the school's single-season blocked shot record-holder. A memorial fund will be active at the MSU branch of First Interstate Bank -- phone 406-586-0757.

The Bobcats finish their non-conference home schedule Monday hosting Great Falls at 7:05 p.m. The University of Great Falls, an NAIA team in the Frontier Conference, is coming off a double win at Walla Walla College in Washington last week. MSU’s last game before the Christmas break comes on the road at South Dakota State. The Jackrabbits have just finished up a five-game road trip which included an 87-47 trouncing by Montana at Missoula. They are now 2-10 after their last road loss to Wisconsin-Green Bay.
Last Week:
Dec. 16: lost to Utah Valley State, 53-60
Battling turnovers and emotion, Montana State dropped what Bobcat coach Brad Huse called a "knock-down, drag-out" to Utah Valley State, 60-53, in Bozeman on Saturday.
With the death of former teammate Al Beye 24 hours earlier looming, the Bobcats faced double-digit deficits in each half, but managed to trim the Utah Valley lead to three points on two occasions in the last nine minutes. Bobcat coach Brad Huse said the residue of Beye's death affected the game, but not the outcome, and that he was proud of his team's effort. Nick Dissly took the lead in that effort, scoring 19 of MSU's 25 first-half points to keep Montana State in the game. He led both teams in scoring with 29.

The Bobcats are on the road this week for a pair of games in Utah beginning Monday at WAC opponent Utah. Utah is 5-5 with losses to Stanford, Gonzaga, and Oregon. Their wins include Arizona and USC. The ‘Cats continue on the road for a Wednesday afternoon game at Orem, Utah against Utah Valley State. Utah Valley State's school record seven-game winning streak came to an end on Saturday as BYU used its size to top the Wolverines 71-57. UVS owns a 9-2 record for the season.

12/14: beat Western Montana, 77-71
Freshman point-guard Erica Perry broke a 68-all tie with 2:18 remaining with five consecutive points to help Montana State to a 77-71 win over the University of Montana-Western. The victory marked the first time since late February 2005 that the Montana State women’s basketball team has posted back-to-back wins.
Rebecca Mercer paced the Bobcats with 18 points, while Perry and Whitney Connolly chipped in 15 and 11 points, respectively.
MSU also held a 40-38 advantage under the boards as Nubia Garcia and Krislyn Wallace each tallied 11 rebounds. For the game, the Bobcats shot 44 percent from the field, while forcing 22 Bulldog turnovers
Bobcat Track Indoor Season Opens Jan. 8
The 2007 indoor track season begins for the Bobcats on January 8 with the MSU Combined Invite in the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. MSU will host the indoor conference championship this year Feb. 23-24.
