Athletes spent the last month donating money to benefit the local program headed by the Montana Marine Reserve Corps and the Bozeman Exchange Club.
“We take requests from families in need, no questions asked,” said Doc Crane, local coordinator for the program. “Verizon donated a phone line and people call in their requests. We will distribute the toys starting Friday at the Beaverpond Plaza.”
Bobcat athletes raised a total of $1,638.36. Athletes and cheerleaders then did the shopping. The gifts were handed off to Toys for Tots at the MSU Fiedhouse on Thursday afternoon.
“It was fun to be able to give to kids in need,” said Elizabeth Driscoll, junior cross country and track athlete. “We think it’s important to give back to the community and this helps us do something meaningful for Bozeman area kids.”
The fund drive was sponsored by the MSU Student Athlete Advisory Committee that is comprised of one representative from every sport at Montana State.
