The Montana State women’s basketball team will host Frontier Conference power Montana-Western on Thursday, Dec. 14 at 7:05 p.m. in Worthington Arena. Montana-Western is currently ranked 4th in the NAIA poll and sport a 14-0 overall record.
ON THE AIR:
All Montana State women’s basketball games will be carried live on My 103.5 FM. Veteran broadcaster Mark Martello will handle play-by-play duties for his second straight season. Martello will begin his broadcast with the Bobcat Pregame Show, originating 15-minutes prior to tip-off.
SERIES FACTS:
Montana State holds the all-time series record of 9-0 dating back to the 1974-75 campaign. The Bobcats won the last meeting between the two squads on Dec. 21, 1998 with an 80-51 decision over the Bulldogs.
FAST BREAKS:
With its 71-53 victory over Utah State on Dec. 6, the Bobcats surpassed its total wins from last year when Montana State posted a 3-23 overall mark…senior Whitney Connolly paced MSU against Utah State with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Rebecca Mercer added 13 points and four rebounds…despite shooting only 32 percent from the field against the Aggies, MSU converted 29-of-39 from the free throw line…earlier in the week the Bobcats dropped a heart-breaking 63-62 decision to Portland…Alyssa Nelson paced the Bobcats with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Nubia Garcia added 11 points and six rebounds, and junior college transfer Krislyn Wallace posting a team-high ten rebounds…entering the season, a point of emphasis for the Bobcats was rebounding. Last year, MSU averaged 33.8 rebounds per game. So far this season, Montana State has improved that mark to 40.4 per contest…Montana State is looking to put together its first back-to-back wins since the 2004-05 season. MSU is currently alternating between wins and losses…The Bobcats host Montana-Western on Thursday. The NAIA school is currently undefeated and ranked 4th in the nation.
BOBCAT PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Senior Whitney Connolly was named Montana State Player of the Week for her efforts in MSU’s two games, last week. The 6-3 native of Ennis came off the bench to record a team-high 16 points and 12 rebounds in the Bobcats 71-53 win over Utah State. Against the Aggies, Connolly converted 12-15 from the free throw line. In addition, she added two blocks and a steal. Against Portland, Connolly recorded five points and an assist in 14 minutes of action. On the year, she is averaging 10.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game, while shooting 47 percent from the field and 66 percent from the line. Connolly has also converted 5-12 from long distance. She has also logged 11 blocks this season, giving her 83 for her career, which ranks third on the all-time Bobcat career blocks chart.
