Women Host Wingate Inn Thanksgiving Classic

NEXT UP: The Montana State women’s basketball team will host its annual Wingate Inn Thanksgiving Classic, Nov. 24-25 in Worthington Arena. The tournament will open on Friday as Texas-Arlington will face North Dakota State at 5 p.m. The game will be followed by MSU-Cal State Fullerton at 7:30 p.m. The third place game will be held Saturday at 5 p.m., followed by the championship contest at 7:30 p.m.
ON THE AIR: All Montana State women’s basketball games will be carried live on My 103.5 FM. Veteran broadcaster Mark Martello will handle play-by-play duties for his second straight season. Martello will begin his broadcast with the Bobcat Pregame Show, originating 15-minutes prior to tip-off.
THE WEEK THAT WAS: Montana State opened its 2006-07 road campaign with a 78-68 win at Long Beach State, last Friday. Junior college transfer Rebecca Mercer and senior Whitney Connolly each chipped in a team-high 17 points, while Alyssa Nelson and Erica Perry addded 11 and ten, respectively. Connolly hit seven-of-eight coming off the bench and added three blocks, as well. On Sunday, the Bobcats dropped a 69-62 decision at Oregon State. Mercer and Nubia Garcia paced MSU with 13 points, apiece, while Connolly added 11. Garcia, a 6-1 sophomore from from Chihuahua, Mexico, completed the double-double with a team-high ten rebounds.
FAST BREAKS: With its win at Long Beach State, the Bobcats posted their first non-conference road victory in the Tricia Binford ear, and its first since Nov. 19, 2004 when it downed Air Force in overtime...MSU’s back court tandem of Alyssa Nelson and Erica Perry combined for 21 points, eight assists and five steals at Long Beach State...Montana State got is first win of the 2006-07 seasons in only its second try of the year. Last season, it took the Bobcats 12 tries before reaching the win column...Whitney Connolly earned co-Big Sky Player of the Week honors, after averaging 14 points, while shooting 76 percent.
