Oregon State Gets Past Bobcat Women

Sunday afternoon, she faced OSU again, this time in Corvallis.
And, this time with a much different result.
On Sunday, the Beavers used a strong second half to notch a 69-62 win over the Bobcats in Gill Coliseum.
Last year, OSU handed MSU a 70-35 setback in Worthington Arena.
“The two teams are totally different from the teams that played in Bozeman last season,” Binford said. “However, I feet that we’re much farther along then at this time last season.”
Trailing 21-10 at the 9:14 mark of the first half, Montana State (1-2) went on a 17-7 run to close the gap to 28-27 at intermission.
“It was a half filled with runs,” Binford said. “The biggest thing that got us back into the game was our press. We got our up-tempo style going.”
In the second stanza, MSU tied the game at 33-all with 16:02 left following a Nubia Garcia layup. However, Oregon State (2-1) responded with 22-7 run to secure the win. A late Montana State rally got the Bobcats within seven points at the final buzzer.
“Oregon State went to a 2-2-1 press and really slowed us down,” Binford said. “We didn’t do a good job executing our press breaker and we got out of sync on offense.
“For the most part, I was happy with our performance,” Binford said. “OSU was just more physical and was stronger on the boards.”
Garcia and Rebecca Mercer paced Montana State with 13 points, apiece, while Whitney Connolly came off the bench to chip in 11 points on five-of-nine shooting.
Garcia, a 6-foot-1 sophomore, completed a double-double with a team-high ten rebounds.
For the game, MSU shot 41 percent from the field, but converted only 56 percent from the free throw line.
The Beavers were paced by Casey Nash with 26 points and 13 rebounds.
“We’re in a different place then last season,” Binford said. “We’re coming home with a road split against the Big West and PAC-10, and that’s something we couldn’t say last year.”
Montana State will host the Wingate Thanksgiving Classic this weekend, which will feature Cal State Fullerton, North Dakota State and Texas-Arlington.
