Bobcats Fall to Portland

Montana State found its stroke from three-point land on Friday, but never quite found the touch from the free throw line, as a late rally came up short in a 59-53 loss to the University of Portland.
Carlos Taylor led the Bobcats with 19 points on the strength of 6-for-7 shooting from three-point range, and MSU hit a season-high nine triples. But the Bobcats struggled from the charity stripe, hitting just 5-of-11 in the second half and 6-of-12 for the game.
The game was close throughout, although MSU trailed by nine in the first half after a three-pointer by Walter Thompson. Portland led by as many as 11 in the second half, but MSU answered with three straight three-pointers by Carlos Taylor, punctuated by a Taylor free throw. That came in the middle of a 18-6 run and gave MSU a 53-53 tie with 1:57 to play.
Brian McTear hit a layup to give Portland the lead it wouldn't relinquish, and four straight free throws by Ben Sullivan seald the team's win.
Ted Morris and Casey Durham each had nine points for MSU, Morris leading the team with 11 boards and Durham pacing the 'Cats with five assists.
Montana State plays at Idaho on Sunday afternoon at 5 pm.
