NEXT UP: The Montana State women’s basketball team will take to the road this weekend for a pair of non-conference games. Both contests are return games, as Long Beach State and Oregon State played in Worthington Arena, last season. The Bobcats will face Long Beach State, Friday, Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. (MST) in the Walter Pyramid. Montana State will travel up the coast and face PAC-10 foe Oregon State, Sunday, Nov. 19 at 5 p.m. (MST) in Gill Coliseum.
ON THE AIR: All Montana State women’s basketball games will be carried live on My 103.5 FM. Veteran broadcaster Mark Martello will handle play-by-play duties for his second straight season. Martello will begin his broadcast with the Bobcat Pregame Show, originating 15-minutes prior to tip-off.
THE WEEK THAT WAS: Montana State opened its 2006-07 season with a disappointing loss to Montana Tech on Sunday (66-57) in Worthington Arena. Alyssa Nelson paced the Bobcats with 16 points and six steals, while Nubia Garcia added nine points and a team-high nine rebounds. For the game, MSU shot 36 percent from the field and 60 percent from the free throw line. In addition, the Bobcats converted a dismal three-of-18 from three-point range.
THE DISHA ON TRICIA: Montana State head coach Tricia Binford is in her second season at MSU and sports a 3-24 overall mark and a 2-12 Big Sky ledger. She previously served as an assistant at Utah State and Boise State, and played five seasons in the WNBA for the Cleveland Rockers and Utah Starzz. Binford, who played at Boise State as Tricia Bader, was a three-time All-Big Sky honoree.
SCOUTING REPORT: The Long Beach State 49ers are 0-2 on the season, losing to USC and Santa Clara. LBS is paced by Tyresha Calhoun, a 5-6 guard who is averaging 15 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. Oregon State is 1-1 overall, defeating Southern Utah and losing to Cal Poly. They are led by Casey Nash, a 6-1 guard, who is averaging 18.5 points and 7.5 rebounds.
