Balance Sparks Bobcat Women’s Hoop Scrimmage

“We found out that we need better shot selection and more energy,” said MSU second-year head coach Tricia Binford. “I think our strength is in the open court and we need to solidify our transition game.”
Eleven of 12 Bobcats playing in the scrimmage found the scoreboard, led by sophomore Brandie Buckless. The Whitefish native, who redshirted last winter due to a torn ACL, recorded a team-high nine points, all from three-point range.
Also contributing were Anne Phippard and Scotta Morton with seven points, apiece.
Under the boards, junior college transfer Krislyn Wallace registered nine rebounds, while senior Whitney Connolly added eight.
“Defense and rebounding will dictate what we do this season,” Binford said. “We need to focus on getting stops, and staying away from old habits.”
Freshman guard Callie Goff led all players with four assists, while first-team All-Big Sky performer Alyssa Nelson added three assists and two steals.
The Bobcats played without junior college transfer Rebecca Mercer, who was inducted into the Lake Region College Hall of Fame over the weekend. MSU will also be without the services of Jenny Heringer and Mara Hoefer for the season due to injuries.
Montana State will host MSU-Billings in an exhibition game on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. in Worthington Arena.
