Driscoll, a Bozeman native, completed the 5-kilometer course in a time of 17:53 to pace the Bobcats to a fourth place team finish. Driscoll placed tenth last season and was sixth as a freshman.
“Elisabeth had the best race of her career,” said MSU cross country coach Dale Kennedy. “She’s on track to be one of those rare kids that earn four Big Sky all-conference honors. This was by far the toughest of the three.”
Driscoll was followed by teammates Carrie Gottschalk, 14th, 18:19; Ashley Hadway, 21st, 18:35; Kayla Larson, 26th, 18:48; Leah Thompson, 39th, 19:26; Marilee Woyth, 43rd, 19:31; and Elena Gibson, 61st, 20:58.
“Carrie Gottschalk ran a courageous race, after getting out too hard,” Kennedy said. “Kayla Larson also had the best race of her season, and finished where we needed her to be.”
Weber State ended Northern Arizona’s dominance, winning the team title with 39 points. They were followed by Montana 82, NAU 86, MSU 105, Idaho State 131, Eastern Washington 135, Sacramento State 164, Portland State 187, and Northern Colorado 255.
Nicole Gueldemeister of Northern Arizona won the individual crown in 17:14.
“Heading into the meet we were shooting for a fourth place finish,” Kennedy said. “We knew we’d battle Idaho State and the kids came through and got the job done.”
The Montana State men’s squad also had a solid performance, placing third overall.
The Bobcats were led by freshman Matt Adams, who finished 12th overall covering the 8-kilometer race in 24:55. He was followed by teammates Nick Atwood, 14th, 25:02; Kurt Michels, 17th, 25:08; Devin McDowell, 20th, 25:12; Matt Beamer, 27th, 25:36; Michael Kapus, 36th, 26:08; and Graydon Curry, 52nd, 27:12.
“Matt Adams had a great race, and for awhile we had three kids up in the top ten,” Kennedy said. “Devin McDowell had his best race and really ran smart. He was in the back of the pack and then started gobbling up runners in front of him.”
Weber State also claimed the men’s team title with 32 points, followed by NAU 50, MSU 90, Montana 130, Sacramento State 136, Idaho State 168, Eastern Washington 175, Northern Colorado 215 and Portland State 261.
“We finished in our coveted third place,” Kennedy said. “I think our guys thought they could get Northern Arizona, and some of them got out too hard. However, we’re very pleased with how our kids ran, and not to beat a dead horse, but our young kids gained a lot of experience and the future looks very good.”
Lopez Lomong of Northern Arizona won the men’s individual title in 23:27.
MSU will run at the NCAA Mountain Regional, Nov. 11 in Albuquerque, NM.
