Jefferson is BSC Player of the Week
Mike Jefferson, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound senior from El Paso, Texas, was chosen Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week for his play in the Bobcat win Saturday at Idaho State. Jefferson set a Montana State record with 305 all-purpose yards and tied another with five touchdowns in the Bobcats’ 42-35 victory. Jefferson caught six passes for 207 yards with three touchdowns, rushed for two touchdowns and 67 yards, and had one kick return for 31 yards. Jefferson averaged 34.5 yards per catch and 33.5 yards per run. Jefferson scored on a 32-yard pass in the second quarter, and hauled in TD catches of 70 and 43 yards in the third quarter. He scored on a 57-yard run early in the fourth quarter, and capped MSU’s scoring with a 10-yard run with 1:55 to play. Jefferson’s 207 receiving yards ranks as the fifth-best game in MSU history. His five touchdowns matched a 40-year-old record set by Don Hass against North Dakota State in 1966. This is Jefferson’s second Player of the Week Award this season.

This weekend, MSU hosts Weber State in the continuing quest for the conference championship. WSU is coming off a close game against Montana. In that game, Weber State scored two times in the last 8:34 to cut into a 16-point Montana lead, but was unable to get the ball back for a final chance as they fell 33-30 at home. MSU is coming off a decisive 42-35 win over Idaho State at Pocatello. The 2005 meeting between the Montana State and Weber State was won by MSU at Ogden, 27-24.MSU also leads the series between the two, 23-19.

Montana State used a spectacular aerial performance to win 42-35 over Idaho State on Saturday. Michael Jefferson tied the MSU record with five touchdowns, leading Montana State to a 42-35 win over Idaho State in Holt Arena on Saturday. Quarterback Jack Rolovich posted his second straight start. The junior threw for 323 yards on 16-for-27 passing, with three interceptions and one touchdown. In all, the Bobcat offense churned out 436 yards, while ISU rolled up 403, most of that on the final three drives in the fourth quarter.

Montana State hosts the final volleyball homestand of 2006 beginning Thursday against Northern Arizona. NAU had one match last week, beating Northern Colorado at home 3-2. Montana State won the first meeting of the two in September, 3-1. On Saturday, the Bobcats host Northern Colorado for Senior Night in Shroyer Gym. The ‘Cats will be honoring seniors Kami Buettner, Angela Wiebe, Kim Stonehouse, and Kandice Kelly. Northern Colorado won the first meeting of the two in September, 3-0. The final home match of the season falls on Halloween, Oct. 31, as MSU hosts non-conference D-1 newcomer South Dakota State.

Despite 11 kills and six blocks by middle blocker Angela Wiebe, the Montana State volleyball squad dropped a 30-27, 30-28, 30-19 decision to Big Sky leading Sacramento State Thursday night. On Saturday night, the Bobcats lost a heartbreaker at Idaho State, 3-2. Despite winning almost every statistical category, the ‘Cats saw their rally fall short in a 31-29, 30-25, 17-30, 24-30, 15-12 loss.

10/28: Big Sky Conference Championships at Sacramento, Calif.
Montana State travels to Sacramento for the 2006 Big Sky Cross Country Championship at Granite Park in Sacramento, Calif., on October 28. The Montana State men are coming off a strong third place showing in the "open" division of the NCAA Pre-Nationals. The MSU men’s squad will be paced by senior and All-Big Sky Conference performer Kurt Michels. The women have been led this fall by juniors Carrie Gottschalk and Elisabeth Driscoll.

Men’s Tennis
The Montana State men's tennis team finished play at the ITA Mountain Regional Championship on Oct. 22. MSU's top player, Kyle McDonald, finished singles play with a 1-2 ledger. The Wyoming native defeated Joe Nicolazzi of New Mexico 6-3, 6-1, before dropping three set matches to opponents from Boise State and UNLV. The doubles team of Justin Hauck and Anton Leonenko finished 2-1 at the event.
"The guys did well," said MSU men's coach Mike Phillips. "We had some very good wins, with no tough losses. The team is learning and improving fast and we're happy with the results."
