Bobcat Rally Falls Short

“It’s very disappointing,” said MSU head coach Miya Malauulu. “The kids saw how good they can play in games three and four, and we had chances in first two games, but our lack of consistency and lapses at crucial times really hurt us.”
Montana State (6-14, 2-9) held a 28-27 advantage in the opening set, and jumped out to an early 8-0 advantage in game two, only to see Idaho State (9-16, 5-7) come back for the victories.
The Bobcats cruised in game three, out-hitting the Bengals .239 to .000. In the fourth stanza MSU got out to an early lead and finished the set with three unanswered points.
In the final game, the score was tied on eight occasions, before ISU broke away with a 4-1 run to register the victory.
Sophomore Laura Viren paced the Bobcats with 19 kills and 17 digs, while Patti Anderson also recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs. Also in double-digit kills were Angela Wiebe and Kim Stonehouse with 12, apiece. Setter Kami Buettner and Sarah Allen combined to dish out 65 assists.
Defensively, Kandice Kelly guided MSU with 30 digs , while Allyce Bebensee and Allen also recorded double-figure digs with 12 each. Wiebe and Buettner led the Bobcats at the net with seven and six blocks, respectively.
ISU was led by Nikki Havens with a match-high 23 kills
MSU will host Northern Arizona and Northern Colorado next week in Shroyer Gym.
