Jefferson Wins BSC Offensive Player of the Week
Michael Jefferson, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound senior wide receiver from El Paso, Texas, hauled in 12 catches for a school-record 239 yards and scored a touchdown in Montana State’s 39-32 Big Sky Conference road victory over Northern Arizona. Jefferson caught a 56-yard TD pass in the second quarter to give the Bobcats a 22-7 lead, and had four catches of 20 yards or more. His 12 catches ranked sixth in MSU single-game history. The transfer from Arizona hauled in a 24-yard catch on MSU’s game-winning touchdown drive. This is Jefferson’s first Player of the Week Honor.

This weekend, MSU hosts Portland State for homecoming. Kickoff time is at 1:37 p.m. Portland State travels to Bozeman following their first conference loss at Montana, dropping the Vikings to sole possession of second place in the BSC. The Bobcats look to break their longest home losing streak since 2001 and stay in the hunt for the conference championship.

In Montana State’s second game away from Bozeman this season, the Bobcats restored order and revived their season with an exhilarating 39-32 win over Northern Arizona in Flagstaff. Cory Carpenter threw for 300 yards and true freshman Aaron Mason rushed for 192 yards and a pair of touchdowns to spear the win. Michael Jefferson accentuated the victory with a school record 239 yards in 12 catches. The win broke a Bobcat three-game losing streak.

9/30: Montana Invite at Missoula
The Montana State men’s cross country team won three duals and placed second overall, Saturday morning at the University of Montana Invitational. The Bobcat women captured two duals and finished third overall.
The MSU men’s team was paced in the race by true-freshman Nick Atwood, who finished eighth overall, covering the 8-kilometer course in 25:51. He was followed closely by Kurt Michels, 12th, 26:00, Matt Adams, 15th, 26:03, Devin McDowell, 19th, 26:24, Matt Beamer, 24th, 26:30, Graydon Curry, 29th, 27:00, Michael Kapus, 33rd, 27:23, and David Steinbacher, 43rd, 27:50.
The Bobcat men defeated Montana, Idaho State and Eastern Washington, while dropping its only dual to Washington State. The MSU women defeated Idaho State and Eastern Washington, while dropping duals to Montana and Washington State.

Bobcat volleyball hosts the top and bottom of the conference this week with visits from Portland State (10-5, 5-1) and Eastern Washington (8-7, 1-5). On Thursday, the ‘Cats begin the homestand with the Eagles at Shroyer Gym. EWU tied for second in last year’s conference race, but has had trouble getting out of the basement in 2006. EWU won the last meeting of the two in 2005. Portland State comes to Bozeman off a split in last weekend’s play, losing to conference leader Sacramento State and beating Idaho State, both on the road. PSU sits in second place in the conference behind league undefeated Sac State.

9/28: lost at Northern Colorado, 0-3 (31-29, 30-25, 30-14)
9/30: beat Northern Arizona, 3-1 (20-30, 30-24, 30-26, 35-33)
MSU gained a critical road win last weekend defeating Northern Arizona in four games. Angela Wiebe recorded a career-high 16 kills and added four blocks to rally the Bobcat volleyball team to a 3-1 game win Saturday night.
“The kids played with a lot of heart,” said MSU head coach Miya Malauulu. “They out-hit us, out-dug us, and out-blocked us, but we still found a way to win. That’s exactly what we’ve been looking for from the girls over the past few weeks.”
On Thursday, MSU lost to league newcomer Northern Colorado in three games on the road. Northern Colorado has two conference losses this season.

Bobcat golf fans can follow the University of Colorado Heather Farr Memorial Invitational stats through live scoring throughout the day by visiting http://cubuffs.statsgeek.com/golf-w/live/. The Cats tackle the Omni Interlocken Golf Club course Monday and Tuesday at Broomfield, Colorado. Shotgun start for the first 36 holes is at 8:30 MDT Monday. The sixteen-team field includes four Big Sky schools; Weber State, Eastern Washington, Portland State and Montana State.

9/25-26: Inland Empire Invite at Spokane, Wash.
The Montana State golf team jumped two places after a disappointing round one showing to finish seventh at the Inland Empire Golf Invite in Spokane, Washington.
Junior Kelly Gillum led MSU finishing in a tie for 12th place with a score of 230. Gillum started out slow shooting an 80 in round one, but followed with a strong 71 and 79 in her final two rounds.
