Sacramento State Sweeps Cat Spikers

“Angela had an outstanding match,” said MSU head coach Miya Malauulu. “She was really on her game.”
Montana State (6-13, 2-8) held a 24-19 advantage in the opening set, before Sacramento State (22-4, 9-0) rallied with six unanswered points. With the match tied at 25-all the Hornets used a 5-2 run to record the victory.
In the second stanza, the Bobcats again held a 20-16 margin, before seeing Sacramento State rally. MSU held a 25-24 advantage, before Sacramento State rattled off a 6-3 run for the win.
In the final game, the Hornets pulled away from a 14-13 lead, out-hitting the Bobcats .325 to -.075 to win its tenth consecutive match.
Defensively, the Bobcats were paced by Laura Viren and Kandice Kelly with 13 and 12 digs, respectively. Walk-on freshman Allyce Bebensee came off the bench to record ten digs, as well. Raelene Purnell and Wiebe guided the Bobcats at the net combining for 11 blocks.
“We need to continue working hard, so we can overcome the mindset of just playing to 25 points,” Malauulu said. “Our biggest problem is closing out the games.”
MSU played without the services of its top offensive player Kim Stonehouse, who was sidelined with an injury.
“We had some young kids on the floor and they did a great job,” Malauulu said.
Montana State will play at Idaho State on Saturday night.
