This weekend, MSU travels to Pocatello, Idaho for their fifth conference game of the season. Kickoff time is at 1:37 p.m.(MST). The Bengals are coming off a 34-13 loss to Portland State at Portland. The Bobcats come off a road win against Sacramento State, 21-18. The Bengal loss dropped them to 1-2 in the Big Sky and 2-4 overall. The win raises the ‘Cats to 3-1 in the conference, keeping MSU in the hunt for the conference championship.

10/14: won at Sacramento State, 21-18
Montana State stayed in the hunt fore the conference championship by hanging on for a 21-18 victory at Sacramento after leading 21-0 at the half. Donell Wheaton caught a 52-yard pass from Jack Rolovich with just under three minutes to play, on a play that began at the Bobcat eight-yard line, allowing Montana State to seal the roller-coaster win on Saturday. The win raises Montana State’s record to 3-1 in league play, 4-3 overall, and dropped the Hornets to 2-2 in the Big Sky, 2-4 overall. In his first start of the season, Rolovich threw for 302 yards, with most of the yardage coming from Wheaton and Mike Jefferson. Wheaton caught three passes for 132 yards, Jefferson seven for 111.

MSU takes to the road this week for a pair of conference matches to try and cement a position for the Big Sky Conference tournament. After dropping to Sacramento State, 0-3 last weekend, the Bobcats turn around and play them again this weekend at Sacramento. MSU dropped to the Bengals in September, 1-3 at home.

10/7: lost to Montana, 1-3 (23-30, 30-22, 30-16, 30-23)
MSU lost to league-leader Sacramento on Friday at Shroyer after three hard fought games. MSU led throughout game one before falling 30-28. Patti Anderson and Kim Stonehouse paced the ‘Cats with 13 and 12 kills, respectively. On Saturday night, the ‘Cats came out strong against rival Montana and won game one decisively 30-23. However, MSU faded in the next three games and ended up losing the match, 3-1. One bright spot for the Bobcats was the play of the setters. Senior Kami Buettner had a career outing for MSU recording six kills, a .385 attack mark, 15 assists and seven blocks. Junior transfer Sarah Allen chipped in 18 assists and two digs.

10/28: Big Sky Conference Championships at Sacramento, Calif.
Last Week:
The Montana State men’s cross country team finished third overall in the 2006 NCAA Pre-Nationals’ Open Division, Saturday at the LaVern Gibson Course. The Bobcat women placed 33rd overall in the Blue Race. The meet was hosted by Indiana State University.
The MSU men’s squad was paced by senior Kurt Michels, who finished seventh, covering the 8000-meter course in 25:13. He was followed by Nick Atwood, 18th, 25:32, Matt Beamer, 25th, 25:39, Devin McDowell, 26th, 25:40, Matt Adams, 30th, 25:45, Michael Kapus, 49th, 26:13, and Graydon Curry, 53rd, 26:19.
The Bobcat women’s team finished at the back of the 35-team field, which included eleven nationally ranked squads.
Guiding MSU was Carrie Gottschalk, who placed 60th overall, covering the 6000-meter course in 21:31. She was followed by Elisabeth Driscoll, 123rd, 21:50, Ashley Hadway, 163rd, 22:13, Kayla Larson, 218th, 23:07, Leah Thompson, 237th, 23:48, Marilee Woyth, 242nd, 24:27, Elena Gibson, 245th, 25:17.

The fall golf schedule is complete. The women resume competition March 3, 2007 at the NAU Invitational.

Montana State shot a 333 in round one at the University of British Columbia Invite on Sunday to sit fifth after first round action.
Sophomore LaRae Smith leads the Bobcat team shooting an 80 for the first 18 holes. She is followed by Kelly Gillum (82), Stephanie Simmons (83), Shannon Donegan (88), and Kate Steffanich (91).
The event concludes with an 18-hole round on Monday.
