Bobcat Harriers at NCAA Pre-Nationals

The meet will be held on the LaVern Gibson Course at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center. The event, which is hosted by Indiana State University, will also serve as the site for the NCAA Cross Country Championships, Nov. 20.
“It’s an amazing venue,” said MSU head coach Dale Kennedy. “Just about every school ranked in the top 30 will be competing, most to get a taste for the course, while others will be looking to score enough points to get an at-large bid to the national meet.”
The Bobcat women’s squad will run in the ‘Blue Race,’ which features 35 seeded schools. The six-kilometer event will begin at 9 a.m. (MST). The race will feature #1 Stanford, #6 BYU, #7 Princeton, #10 Providence, #11 Iowa, #12 Florida State, #13 Wake Forest, #16 Arizona State, #18 Minnesota, #21 Michigan State and #26 Virginia.
Big Sky Conference powers Northern Arizona and Weber State will also compete along side the Bobcats.
“This will be a great opportunity for our kids to gain experience and for the future of the women’s program,” Kennedy said. “This will be our biggest event all year. It’s great preparation as we head into our championship season. There are so many teams that we don’t normally get to compete against. It will be interesting to see how we will compete against a large group of racers.”
The MSU men’s team will compete in the ‘Open Division’ race. The eight-kilometer event will begin at 12:05 p.m. The Bobcats will run in a field of 15 squads, including the University of Montana.
“To run in this race is an important step for the future of our men’s program,” Kennedy said. “We had hoped to be in a seeded race, but that didn’t happen, so we’ll make the best of the situation, and compete our hardest. I really like the make-up of the men’s team. Kurt Michels is really looking good and our younger kids have already made an impact this season.”
In all, 94 men’s and 85 women’s NCAA Division I programs will take part in Saturday’s meet. Last fall, both Bobcat squads ran in the ‘Open Division,’ with the women finishing fifth and the men eighth overall.
