Montana State Skiers Sixth After Opening Day

The Bobcats opened the season with the men’s and women’s Nordic classical events.
MSU’s men’s squad had a strong day, finishing fifth overall with 52 points, while the Bobcat women were seventh with 39 points.
The University of Denver leads after the first day with 161 points, followed by Utah 137, UAA 132, Colorado 119, New Mexico 110, MSU 91, Nevada 60, Western State 52, Whitman 49, Wyoming 28 and Boise State 1.
In the men’s 15-kilometer event, the Bobcats were paced by Mark Iverson, who finished 12th in a time of 44:58. He was followed by Chris Coe, 14th, 45:58; Tim Downey 20th, 47:09; Daichi Ito, 25th, 49:55; Nathan Park, 29th, 50:29; and Patrick Carroll, 38th, 53:20.
Denver’s Rene Reisshauer won the individual title in a time of 40:54.
The Bobcat women were led in the 10-kilometer race by Rachel Goldstein, who finished 20th overall in a clocking of 41:58. She was followed by Ine Fahle, 21st, 42:02; Mandy Bowden, 22nd, 42:10; and Claire Rennie, 28th, 42:41. Fraiser Opel and Karoline Teien did not finish the race.
DU’s Anna-Karin Maski won the women’s event in a time of 37:44.
MSU will compete in the Nordic freestyle event on Sunday.
