Bobcat Women’s Tennis Team Downs Utah State

One day after playing for the match against Wyoming, Montana State freshman Lisa Clark reversed her fortune with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 victory over Utah State’s Lauren Monson at No. 6 singles to clinch a 5-2 victory for the Bobcats, Saturday afternoon.
“She (Clark) learned a lot from the Wyoming match and did a super job, especially with her composure,” said MSU women’s coach Denise Albrecht. “I can’t remember the last time a Montana State team has defeated Utah State. This was a tremendous victory.”
Montana State (3-3) opened the match winning the doubles point as the No. 1 duo of Nuria Lozano and Nicole Luetolf notched an 8-5 win over Lindsey Bennion and Andrea Barker. MSU’s No. 2 tandem of Vera Vasileva and Allison Fey posted an 8-1 win, as well.
“The doubles point is a crucial element of a match,” Albrecht said. “We really needed to get it against Utah State. We played our best doubles of the year.”
Lozano and Luetolf won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively to give the Bobcats a 3-0 lead in the match. However, the Aggies answered at No. 3 and 4 singles to close to within 3-2, before Clark secured the victory in a three set victory.
MSU will face Gonzaga on Sunday at 11:45 a.m. in the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.
