Injury Report:
True freshman Nubia Garcia is sidelined for four weeks after having her knee scoped. Garcia sat out last week’s games against Sacramento State and NAU.
That Was The Week That Was:
Montana State opened last week with a 66-57 loss to Sacramento State. The game was tied 32-all at intermission, and the Bobcats held a 54-53 advantage with 5:05 remaining. However, the Hornets converted 10-of-11 free throws down the stretch to secure the victory. In the loss, MSU was paced by junior Whitney Connolly, who came off the bench to score a game-high 19 points. Then Ennis native connected on 8-of-10 from the field, while adding five rebounds, one assist and one block. Also in double-figures for the Bobcats were Scotta Morton and Jenny Heringer with ten points, apiece. Heringer, a freshman from Billings, pulled down a team-high six rebounds, while also chipping in four assists, two steals and a blocked shot. On Saturday afternoon the Bobcats pulled off the biggest upset of the Big Sky Conference season with a 57-55 win over Big Sky leader Northern Arizona. Amanda DeHaan’s basket with 2.4 seconds remaining gave MSU the victory. The Manhattan Christian graduate led the Bobcats with 16 points and six rebounds. Also in double-digits for Montana State was Alyssa Nelson with 14 points, including an 8-of-9 effort from the free throw line. Connolly paced MSU under the boards with a team-high seven rebounds.
Stat of the Week:
The Bobcats converted a whopping 35-of-42 free throw attempts last weekend, hitting at an 83 percent clip.
The Scouting Report:
Eastern Washington is 7-9 overall and 1-2 in Big Sky play. The Eagles are 5-1 on Reese Court. Last week, EWU dropped a pair of league games, losing at Idaho State and Weber State. Their lone Big Sky win was over Portland State 78-76 in Cheney. Last week, the Eagles were led by Jamie Chicane, who averaged nine points and 4.5 rebounds, while shooting 42 percent from the field. Guard Joanna Chadd is the only EWU player averaging in double-figures at 10.9 points per game. The Eagles sport 11 players averaging three points or better. Felice Moore is averaging a team-best 5.9 rebounds.
