That Was The Week That Was:
Montana State opened its 2006 Big Sky Conference schedule on Friday night and was handed a 79-54 setback by the University of Montana. The Bobcats came out cold, shooting just 17 percent in the first half, including an icy 9 percent from three-point range. MSU didn’t convert its first field-goal of the game until the 13:14 mark on an Alyssa Nelson three-pointer. In the second half, the Bobcats warmed up from the field, connecting at a 39 percent clip, including 54 percent (7-13) from long distance. After trailing by 20 points with 17:18 remaining, MSU closed the gap to 43-33 with 10:52 left on a Scotta Morton trey. However, it was the closest the Bobcats would get. Freshman Jenny Heringer notched a team-high 14 points and nine rebounds. Also hitting double-digits were Morton and Nelson with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Over the past six games, Montana State has averaged 7.5 three-point makes per outing.

Sacramento State is 5-9 overall and 0-2 in Big Sky play. Last weekend, they dropped a pair of home games by a combined five points. The Hornets have dropped five games in a row with its last victory coming on Dec. 22 against the University of the Pacific. On the season, Sacramento State has been paced by Kim Sheehy, who is averaging 12.2 points per game, while knocking down 37 percent of her three-point attempts. Also in double-figure scoring for the Hornets are Stephanie Cherry and Cindy Alldrin, who average 11.3 and 10.1 points, respectively. Under the boards, Sacramento State is led by Ashley Cadotte, who averages 7.3 rebounds per game. Northern Arizona is 12-5 overall and 2-0 in Big Sky play. The Lumberjacks will face Montana on Thursday, before traveling to Bozeman. NAU has won its last four games, including wins over Weber State and Idaho State.
