The Montana State women’s basketball team will open the 2006 Big Sky Conference season when it hosts the University of Montana, Friday, Jan. 13 at 7:05 p.m. in Worthington Arena.
On The Air:
All Bobcat games can be heard on 103.5 KZMY-FM. Veteran sportscaster Mark Martello is back behind the microphone and will begin his broadcast with the pregame show, beginning 15-minutes prior to tip.
Tube Time:
Friday’s Cat-Griz game will be broadcast on the MTN Network (CBS), orginating from KPAX in Missoula. KPAX Sports Director Jeremy Jorgenson will handle the play-by-play, with KXLF Sports Director Will Southwood adding color.

Injury Report:
The Bobcats lost one their starters for four weeks. Freshman Nubia Garcia had her knee scoped on Friday, after being nagged by the injury during the non-conference season. Garcia notched 16 points and five steals against UVSC and had been averaging 10.8 ppg., since getting the starting nod.
That Was The Week That Was:
The Bobcats only game in the last week was its best. Montana State finally captured the elusive first win under new head coach Tricia Binford with a 92-84 decision over Utah Valley State on Jan. 2. MSU rang in the New Year with its best performance, which included shooting 57 percent from the field, and a red hot 71 percent in the second stanza. All five Bobcat starters reached double-figures led by a career-high 28 points by Scotta Morton. The Bozeman graduate converted 11-20 from the field, including a pair of three-pointers. Also contributing to the Bobcat victory were Nubia Garcia 16, Amanda DeHaan 13, Jenny Heringer 11, and Alyssa Nelson 10. In addition, Nelson dished out seven assists for the third consecutive game. In all, the Bobcats established five season-high marks against the Wolverines, including points, field goals, field-goal percentage, assists and fouls.
Stat of the Week:
In the second half against Utah Valley State, the Bobcats connected on 20-of-28 attempts from the field, for a whopping 71.4 percent from the floor.

Montana is 11-2 overall and have won eight consecutive games, including a 68-65 overtime decision at Portland on Jan. 2. UM’s last loss came on Dec. 2 at Wyoming as the Cowgirls downed the Lady Griz 50-45 in Laramie. On the season, Montana has three players averaging double-figures, led by freshman Mandy Morales at 14.1 points per contest. Also hitting double-digits are Katie Edwards 13.0 and Dana Conway 11.2. Consistently one of the top defensive units in the Big Sky Conference, the Lady Griz are giving up 58.7 points per game, while limiting their opponents to 35 percent from the field. Both marks are the best in the league to date. Under the boards, the Lady Griz are paced by Jody McLeod and Tamara Guardipee, who average 7.1 and 5.7 rebounds, respectively. In their last outing against Portland, UM had four players in double-figures, led by true freshman Sonya Rogers with 15 points.
