Wiebe hit .522 from the field and added three blocks. Also in double-digit kills was Kim Stonehouse with 14, Meggie Malyurek 12 and Megan Zanto 10. Freshman setter Brittni Sesler dished out 41 assists and notched a career-high four service aces.
“Once we got past the first game, we got into a good rhythm and played within our system,” said third-year head coach Miya Malauulu. “It was a nice way to end the tournament. I thought we played at a good level this weekend. Next week gets even tougher as two top 25 schools come to Bozeman.”
In the opening game, Utah Valley State (0-2) outhit the Bobcats .191 to -.029 and broke away from a 19-18 lead with a 5-0 run. The Wolverines won the game on a tip over the MSU blockers. In the second stanza, Montana State (3-3) broke away from a 14-all tie with an 11-5 run, sparked by three kills by Stonehouse. MSU won the game on a Stonehouse kill.
In the third set, the Bobcats took an early lead and never looked back winning on a Raelene Purnell tip. In the final game, MSU got out to a quick 17-8 advantage on a Sesler ace and cruised to the victory.
MSU will host UC Davis on Thursday, before hosting the 11th annual Holiday Inn Classic, featuring Missouri, Wisconsin and Northern Colorado next weekend.
