Bobcat Spikers Drop Pair at Nevada Tournament

No. 21 Cal handed the Bobcats a 30-26, 30-28, 30-27 setback, before Nevada ended MSU’s day with a 30-26, 27-30, 30-25, 30-23 victory.
“Obviously, we would’ve liked to get both matches,” said MSU head coach Miya Malauulu. “However, we didn’t sustain our level of play for an entire match. I thought we competed better than what we did last weekend at our tournament.
“Even though we lost two matches that we had a chance to win, the girls need to know that we are competing and becoming a better team,” Malauulu added.
Senior outside hitter Meggie Malyurek paced Montana State (6-7) on the afternoon, combining for 26 kills, including a team-high 16 against Nevada. Also contributing to the Bobcat attack was Kim Stonehouse with 32 kills, including a season-high 18 against Cal. Defensively, Montana State was paced by Megan Zanto, who recorded 11 blocks in the two matches.
Montana State will open its Big Sky Conference season at defending Big Sky Conference champion Sacramento State on Thursday.
