Montana State football fans donated $7,880.75 to the Red Cross for its Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund on Saturday, Montana State University President Dr. Geoff Gamble announced Monday.
The crowd of 13,327, a home-opening record for MSU, donated to a team of volunteers that included the Central Valley Fire Department, Gallatin Valley Sheriff's Department, Bozeman Fire Department, Kappa Sig, Alpha Gamma Delta, Pi Beta Phi, MSU's Student Athlete Advisory Committee, the Bobcat men's basketball team, Montana Army National Guard and ASMSU Public Relations. Right Now Technologies of Bozeman donated $1,000, and Red Cross staff members were available throughout the day.
"We should all feel grateful to live in such a generous community," Dr. Gamble said. "By Saturday's game many people had made previous donations, so to be able to assist in this effort in this manner is a strong comment about our community and our University."
