“It was a great response to last night’s match with Missouri,” said third-year head coach Miya Malauulu. “Our senior middle stepped-up her game and (Kim) Stonehouse continued to hit the ball well on the outside.”
Zanto finished the match with 14 kills, a .480 attack mark and six blocks, while Stonehouse chipped in a match-high 17 kills, while adding seven digs. Senior Meggie Malyurek also contributed with four service aces and a team-high 14 digs. Setter Brittni Sesler dished out 43 assists and seven digs.
In the first game, Montana State (5-4) pulled away from a 10-all tie with four straight points and maintained the lead winning the set following a Northern Colorado (1-5) hitting error.
In the second stanza, UNC built an early 7-2 lead before the Bobcats responded to tie the score at 11 following Stonehouse kill. The Bears took a 15-12 advantage and held its lead winning on a kill by Lenay Goble.
Montana State responded to the loss building a 16-10 lead in the third game and cruised to the win out-hitting Northern Colorado .241 to -.093.
In the final game, MSU cruised to a 23-13 advantage following a Meggie Malyurek ace, and then withstood a 7-1 Bear run to win the match on a Stonehouse kill.
UNC was paced in the loss by Amanda Wiggins with 15 kills and ten digs.
MSU plays host to #9 Wisconsin at 7 p.m., Saturday night in Shroyer Gym.
