'Cat Spikers Take a Bite out of Bulldogs

Montana State (2-0) had two players in double-digit kills, led by Kim Stonehouse with 13 and Meggie Malyurek with 12. Malyurek, a senior from Big Horn, Wyo., also hit .417 from the floor, while adding eight digs.
“We’re still making too many errors, both serving and ball-handling, and it’s getting in the way of where we need to be,” said head coach Miya Malauulu. “We’re also lacking a sense of urgency. However, on the flip side, we’re getting it done in the win column and we’re gaining confidence. Once we cut down on the mistakes, we’ll become very competitive.”
Also contributing to the Bobcat attack was senior Megan Zanto. The Helena native tallied eight kills, while hitting .889 and recording a match-high five blocks. Libero Kandice Kelly paced MSU with 17 digs and three aces, while freshman setter Brittni Sesler dished out 33 assists.
In game one, the Bobcats cruised to the 30-16 win out-hitting the Bulldogs .423 to .051. In the second stanza, MSU rallied from a 26-24 deficit with a 6-1 run to win the game on a Stonehouse kill. In the final set, the Bobcats once again used outstanding hitting (.379 to .051) to secure the victory.
Gardner-Webb was paced in the loss by Audra Harrison with 12 kills and nine digs.
MSU will play No. 2 Washington Saturday night.
