“It wasn’t pretty, but a win is a win,” said MSU third-year coach Miya Malauulu. “We had some opening match jitters and things got a little ugly, but nonetheless, our kids competed hard and came away with a victory.”
The Bobcats (1-0) were sparked by redshirt freshman Laura Viren, who came off the bench to notch a team-high 16 kills. She was followed by Meggie Malyurek with 15 kills and 18 digs, while Megan Zanto chipped in 12 kills and four blocks. Freshman setter Brittni Sesler dished out 47 assists, while libero Kandice Kelly posted a team-best 24 digs.
Wyoming (0-1) was paced by Rachel Smith with 17 kills and 12 digs.
MSU will play Gardner-Webb and No. 2 Washington on Saturday.
