Montana State Volleyball Announces 2005 Slate

The Bobcats will open the season at the University of Washington Husky Challenge, August 26-27. MSU will open its season against Wyoming, followed by matches against Gardner-Webb and UW. The Huskies were ranked No. 3 last fall.
“The NCAA moved the opening of the season up one week, and Washington called and wanted us to be part of its tournament,” Malauulu said. “The Husky Challenge will be a tough opener, but we have a veteran team that is looking forward to a great season.
“Unfortunately, adding the opening tournament means we have to for-go our alumni match,” Malauulu said. “It would’ve been a great opportunity to connect with past players, but we had to look forward and afford this year’s team every chance to compete.”
The MSU Alumni match had to be canceled due to the NCAA competition ruling and has not been rescheduled.
MSU will travel to Provo, Utah, Sept. 1-3, where they will play in the Brigham Young Invitational against BYU, Kansas and Utah Valley State. Kansas received votes in the final poll, last season.
The Bobcats will host its 11th Annual Montana State-Holiday Inn Classic, Sept. 9-10. The tournament field will be the most challenging in the history of the Holiday Inn Classic as No. 14 Wisconsin, No. 24 Missouri and future Big Sky Conference opponent Northern Colorado will participate.
Montana State concludes non-conference tournament action at Nevada, Sept. 16-17. Also competing in the tournament will be No. 18 California and Akron. MSU will also have two non-conference matches in Shroyer Gym against UC-Davis, Sept. 8 and North Dakota State, Oct. 29.
The annual ‘Cat-Griz match will again be played in Worthington Arena, to accommodate an expected large crowd.
“I think we have a great schedule,” Malauulu said. “There is a nice variety in the teams and level of play we’ll face. We had a very tough spring season, and our kids have already had a taste for playing against some of the top programs in the nation.
“I’m also happy that we can give our home fans a great Holiday Inn Classic that features the likes of Wisconsin and Missouri,” Malauulu said. “Our fans are very knowledgeable and this tournament field is a nice way to reward them for their loyalty.”
