Doug Fullerton is happy that people are talking about Division I-AA football more and more, but he's not happy with the nomenclature.
In spite of the two decades of equity in the brand, Fullerton is part of a national effort examining a change in terminology. "What happens is that the rest of our sports are labeled I-AA" which creates a stigma that shouldn't exist, because the I-AA classification exists only for football.
Fullerton's suggestion is simple: eliminate the phrase "double-a", simplifying the NCAA's premiere championship classification in football to "Division I football". The next step is to refer to what now is known as the "I-AA Playoffs" as the Playoff Championship Series, or PCS.
"If people confused 'PCS' with 'BCS' (the Bowl Championship Series, or the convaluted series of polls and bowls used to determine a national champion in I-A), that's fine with me," Fullerton smiled.

Travis Lulay became the sixth Bobcat to face the league's media in Park City when he ventured there this week, but he is the first offensive player ever to represent MSU at the meetings. He joins defensive tackles Shaun Ross (2000) and Nick Morasko (2001), safety Kane Ioane (2002), cornerback Joey Thomas (2003), and linebacker Roger Cooper (2004).

Weber State's first-year head coach Ron McBride, when asked how many wins it would tak to mark an improvement over last year's 1-10 squad: "Two."

Bobcat coach Mike Kramer, on All-America offensive tackle Jeff Bolton's athleticism: "He was a tailback in high school. He's always asking us to put plays in for him."

While acknowledging that a nine-team league is less than ideal for sports other than football, Big Sky Commissioner Doug Fullerton expressed excitement over the presence of Northern Colorado coach Kay Dalton and other UNC officials. "Northern Colorado will be a great addition to our league," Fullerton said. "Eight teams is too small. A league needs to protect itself against losing the automatic berth to the NCAA Basketball Tournament, which can happen if you get below seven eligible teams."
