Gebicki Named ESPN The Magazine Second-Team Academic All-America

Gebicki, a junior from Lodz, Poland, is the first Bobcat since football standout Jon Montoya in 2003 to earn one of collegiate sports highest academic honors. Gebicki is only the second MSU men’s tennis athlete to garner the accolade. Todd Devries won the honor in 1989.
“This is a great honor for Marek, our tennis program and the University,” said MSU men’s tennis coach Mike Phillips. “He is an animal both on the court and in the classroom.”
Gebicki played an instrumental role as Montana State captured its second consecutive Big Sky Conference title and made its second straight NCAA Championship appearance. For the season, he finished with a 25-10 overall mark and an 18-5 dual record at No. 2 singles. In addition, he combined with Braden Olson at No. 1 doubles, where the tandem went 15-7.
Gebicki, who led MSU to its first-ever national ranking this season, is a three-time All-Big Sky Conference first-team selection and a three-time All-Big Sky Conference Academic pick. He is also a five-time Big Sky Athlete of the Week.
He currently holds a 3.98 grade-point average in industrial engineering. Gebicki was the only member of a Big Sky Conference institution named to the At-Large Academic All-America Team. The at-large team comprises the sports of tennis, gymnastics, golf, rifle, swimming, hockey, fencing, lacrosse, skiing and wrestling.
