Montana State finished building its 2005 women's cross country team Thursday, signing a pair of in-state distance standouts. Marilee Wouth (pronounced WAHTH, like cloth) of CM Russell High School in Great Falls and Helena Capital's Kristin Parker signed National Letters-of-Intent to join the MSU program.
Wouth finished sixth in the Class AA corss country meet for CMR last fall, earning all-state honors. She was her team's Most Outstanding Runner as a freshman, sophomore and junior, and was a team captain as a senior. She has posted a best mark of 11:38 in the 3200. "Marilee brings good cross country experience to our program, and we'll need her in that area right away," Bobcat coach Dale Kennedy said. "She will add some quality to our group of distance runners, which will be really young next year."
Parker finished fifth in the AA 800 m last year, and has run the 400 in 1:00.2 and the 800 in 2:21. Parker has also posted a career best of 5:17 in the mile, and ran the state three-mile cross country course in 18:33. Kennedy is impressed with her versatility. "Kristin has enough range that she will run cross country for us, which she did well in high school. She helps us in cross country, but can fill a void for us in the 800 and 1500 in track. She really addresses a need."
