THIS WEEK’S ACTION
Montana State hits the high spot of its outdoor regular season on Saturday, traveling to Missoula for the 2005 Cat-Griz Dual. Montana State brings an eight-meet winning streak into the women’s dual, while the Bobcat men look to snap a three-year losing streak. MSU’s women earned a narrow win over Montana in Missoula in April, while the Bobcat and Grizzly men tied an earlier meeting.

This Week
Montana State heads to Missoula for Saturday’s annual Cat-Griz dual, and Dale Kennedy expects that “anything could happen.” The Bobcat and Grizzly men’s teams battled to a tie in Missoula at the Al Manuel Duals in early April, while the Bobcat women topped UM.
Athletes of the Week
Three Bobcats have earned Big Sky athlete of the week honors during this outdoor season. Sophomore throwers Kim Berg (javelin) and Ashley Jones (hammer) join junior Josh Henigman (discus, hammer) as MSU’s outdoor honorees.

A pair of MSU throwers have climbed the school’s record lists this year. Berg’s 158-3 in the javelin is second in MSU history, while Henigman’s 174-9 discus mark is the fourth-best in school history.
Leading the Way
A half-dozen Bobcat athletes lead the Big Sky best marks lists. MSU’s men’s leaders are: Steve Heberly, so, 200 (21.38); Thomas Seely, so, pole vault (15-2); Josh Henigman, sr, discus (174-9); Brad Benjamin, sr, decathlon (6604). Women’s leaders: Elisabeth Driscoll, fr, 5000 (17:35.57aa); Ashley Jones, so., hammer (198-3).

DALE KENNEDY QUOTES
“This should be an interesting meet this weekend. We beat Montana in a women’s dual earlier this year, while the two men’s teams tied. But, you can throw those scores out. Anything can happen in this series. I really think Montana’s women have improved a lot since then, and so have their men. We were without some important people on the men’s side last time, so that will help this weekend. This meet has an interesting dynamic, because we want to win the dual, but we don’t want to compromise our kids for the Big Sky Championships (May 11-14). We’re a little reluctant to overwork kids this close tothat meet. We also have finals next week, and a lot of the kids had tests and projects this week. That’s always a little bit of a factor for us. The weather held our marks down a little bit last week in Eugene, but watching the kids compete made me feel like we’re still improving. We have 21 men and 17 women with (Big Sky) automatic bids, so obviously we have some work to get to 25 (qualifiers) on each side, but I think at the rate we’re improving it’s within our reach.”
