Bobcat Tracksters Head to Tracktown USA

Dale Kennedy doesn't circle a lot of dates on his annual track-and-field calender. Saturday, though, is one of them.
"This is a red-letter day for us," said Kennedy, who is bringing 40 athletes to the meet. "The crowd, the facility, the level of competition, this is just a terrific meet, and a terrific experience for our kids."
The Bobcats, as has been the case throughout the season, are led by a strong group of throwers. Javelin throwers Kim Berg, Kelli Phillip, and Leif Arthun have qualified for the NCAA Midwest Regionals. Josh Henigman, Tanner Rauk, and Hannah Furlong have also qualified in various throwing events.
"Those throwers have really been outstanding," Kennedy said. "They have led the way for us, both with their performance and with their intensity. I like to challenge all our kids to step up to the level our throwers are at consistently."
Montana State's distance crew has a window of opportunity this weekend, Kennedy said. "I cringe to say it around the other kids, but this meet really represents an opportunity for our distance kids," Kennedy said. "This is our last chance at sea level (in the regular season), and I'm looking for all of our distance kids to post season's best times, if not career bests."
The entire Bobcat program has trended that way recently. Kennedy said 41 MSU Bobcat women posted season's best marks last weekend, while 39 men accomplished that feat. Six Bobcats surpassed the regional qualifying mark, two for the first time this year.
"I'm still shaking my head about last weekend," Kennedy said. "That was a phenomenal performance by our team across the board. I'm really excited about the opportunity to continue that momentum this weekend."
