Bobcat Tennis Teams Prep for Big Sky Tourney with Home Matches

The matches will help determine seeding for the Big Sky Conference championship, which begin April 28 in Phoenix, Ariz.
The Montana State (9-11, 2-1) women’s squad, who has won five of its last six matches, open Friday against Idaho State at 10 a.m. The Bobcat men’s team, who have dropped three of its last four matches, but are currently ranked No. 73, will follow against the Bengals at 2 p.m.
On Saturday, both teams face Northern Arizona, beginning with the men at 9 a.m., and followed by the women at 2 p.m. MSU will conclude play with Weber State on Sunday, starting with the women at 9 a.m., followed by the men at 1 p.m.
The freshmen duo of Nuria Lozano and Nicole Luetolf will pace the Bobcats this weekend, as the two have combined for 25 victories at No. 1 and 2 singles. The Bobcat men are led by No. 1 singles standout Federico Ueltschi, who currently boasts a 31-8 overall mark.
“This is an important weekend, in terms of seeding and gaining momentum for the Big Sky Tournament,” said MSU women’s head coach Denise Albrecht. “We’re playing very well and we need to focus on one match at a time. All four teams playing this weekend are capable of beating anyone.”
The top six Big Sky squads make the postseason tournament. The Montana State (14-6, 3-0) men’s team is currently in first place, while the women are in a second place tie with Weber State. The top two teams receive first-rounds byes.
