Bobcat Netters Run Win Streak to Eleven, Women Defeat Vandals

The Montana State (13-3, 3-0) men’s squad posted a pair of victories on Friday in California. In a battle of the two undefeated Big Sky Conference teams, it was the Bobcats who walked away with a 4-3 decision and its 11th straight dual win. After dropping the opening doubles point, MSU fought back to capture four of six singles matches. Junior Marek Gebicki secured the victory with a clutch 7-6, 3-6, 7-5 win over Sac’s Matt Jones.
Also posting single match victories were Federico Ueltschi, Kyle McDonald and Jake Berriochoa.
MSU went cross town in the afternoon to defeat UC Davis 6-1. The Bobcats claimed the doubles point and five of six singles matches.
For the first time in over ten years, the Montana State (5-10, 1-1) women’s squad posted a victory over the University of Idaho. MSU beat the Vandals 4-2. Leading the Bobcats was freshman Nuria Lozano, who posted a 7-5, 7-5 victory over UI’s Patricia Ruman. Also winning singles matches were Nicole Luetolf, Ivette Duran and Katy Clarke.
“It was very exciting to knock off Idaho,” said MSU women’s coach Denise Albrecht. “That’s something a Montana State squad hasn’t done in a long time. We’re continuing to gain confidence and this win was a big boost as we start inching towards the Big Sky championships.”
