Bobcat Track Announces Indoor Awards

A pair of versatile performers earned Montana State's Top Gun Awards, leading the track and field program's list of award winners for the just-completed indoor season.
Freshman Torey Scheafer (Billings) scored 70.25 points during the indoor season to lead the MSU women's team, while jumper/sprinter Steven Hodge (jr., Kalispell) scored 69.5 points to lead the men's squad. "Those two really led the way for us," said MSU coach Dale Kennedy, "although we had a lot of contributors on both sides."
Junior Ashley Hadway (Spokane, WA) registered a pair of top six finishes in the Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships to land Outstanding Female Track Performer honors. Hadway was fifth in the 3,000m, sixth in the 5,000m. Kevin Clary (sr., Kalispell) won the Big Sky 3,000 m indoor title and anchored the third-place distance medley relay team to pick up Men's Outstanding Track Performer kudos.
Carra Greyn (jr, Billings) won the Big Sky title in the shot put, and finished third in the weight throw to pick up the Women's Outstanding Field Event award, while Hodge (second in heptathlon, sixth in high jump and pole vault) and Thomas Seeley (so., Hanford, WA) Big Sky pole vault champ) won Male Field Event honors.
Mike Green (Simms) was named the team's Outstanding Male Freshman, while vaulter Brittany Spiers (Huron, SD) and distance runner Kayla Larson (Opheim) share the women's award. Junior distance runner Tony Bachmann (Gillette, WY) shares the Men's Most Improved Award after finishing fifth in the 3,000m and seventh in the 5,000m with Jesse Allen (so., Billings), who posted personal bests in the shot put and weight throw this winter. The women's Most Improved is sarah Eby, who improved her best pole vault mark by a foot-and-a-half.
Kennedy also indicated that Montana State finished the indoor season ranked 32nd in the men's dual meet power poll, and 50th in the women's poll. "That's quite an accomplishment, to finish among the nation's elite programs," Kennedy said. "Our men's team is proud of that, and I know we have goals of each of our programs finishing in the top 20 during the outdoor season."
