The victory completes a landmark week for the Bobcats, who have swept their spring break road trip with wins over No. 38 Southern Methodist and University of Texas-Arlington.
"To the best of my knowledge, this is the first time MSU has had a national ranking," MSU coach Mike Phillips said via e-mail.
"I'm so proud of the guys and I know I they deserve it."
Rain shortened Tuesday's match format to one doubles match and four singles matches.
The Bobcats' rallied after Tejeshwara Chigateri and Nate Berriochoa dropped the doubles match to Ben Pettinari and Djordje Uskakeria, 7-9.
The Bobcats' No. 1 singles Federico Ueltschi defeated Luka Marindovic, 6-2, 6-2. Braden Olson defeated Yohann Nograbat, 6-4, 6-2, and freshman Kyle McDonald defeated Alfredo Lagarda, 6-2, 6-4.
No. 2 singles Marek Gebicki lost to Guillermo Gomez, 6-0, 5-7, 4-6.
Phillips was not sure how long the Bobcats would hold their ranking now that the strength of their schedule is tapering off.
"We'll enjoy it while it lasts," he said.
