MSU tennis defeats nationally-ranked SMU

With the match tied 3-all, Tejeshwara Chigateri, a junior from Bangalore, India, fought off two break points with the score tied at 5-5 to hold serve for MSU. He then broke the following game to clinch the victory for Montana State.
"It was a combination of excitment and shock," said Montana State head coach Mike Phillips. "We were just going out to do our best and to win against such a great team was a bit of a suprise for us."
Chigateri, a business major, finished as part of the All Big Sky Conference team last season with a 17-4 record.
On Monday, the men's team beat the University of Texas-Arlington 5-2.
The back-to-back battles were physically and emotionally draining for MSU.
"It was hard to come back against Arlington after beating SMU, so we had to play really hard to beat them," Phillips said. "These long days with these matches have been an emotional ride for us."
And the ride isn't done yet. Montana State faces Illinois State today in Dallas.
"We have been so close to breaking through against good teams and the guys worked so hard for this and deserved it so much," Phillips said.
