Montana State Skiers 13th at NCAA Championships

Montana State freshman Karoline Teien paced the Bobcats in the women’s five-kilometer classic race, finishing 17th overall in a time of 18:42.7. For Teien, a native of Sande, Norway, it was the first time this season she’s placed first for the Bobcats.
Teien was followed by Emily Robins, 19th, 18:58.8, and Amanda Bowden, 25th, 19:11.3. The Montana State women’s Nordic team was the seventh best squad on Thursday, accumulating 68 points.
Mandy Kaempf of Alaska-Anchorage, who won the NCAA Western Regional freestyle event two weeks ago at Bohart Ranch, won the national title covering the five-kilometer course in a time of 17:19.3.
Mark Iverson, MSU’s lone male entry in the Nordic events placed 31st overall in the 10-kilometer classic race in a time of 33:56.9. Denver’s Rene Reisshauer, another NCAA Western Regional champion, claimed the national crown with a clocking of 30:49.1.
With a strong Nordic showing on Thursday, DU took over the top spot with 369 points, followed by Vermont 348, Dartmouth 296, Utah 289, New Mexico 274, Colorado 231, Alaska-Anchorage 231, Colby 186, Northern Michigan 186, Nevada 170, Middlebury 163, Williams 142, Montana State 125, New Hampshire 110, Alaska-Fairbanks 84, Boise State 44, Whitman 44, Michigan Tech 36, Western State 29, Wisconsin Green Bay 28, Bates 24 and St. Lawrence 22.
The NCAA Championships will continue on Friday with the men’s and women’s slalom races.
