MSU Shows Well at Pocatello
2/6/2005 12:00:00 AM | Track & Field
Paced by Luke Holden's win in the triple jump and solid work by the throws and distance events crews, Montana State showed well at Idaho State's Mountain States Games in Pocatello on Friday and Saturday.
Holden, a freshman from Bismarck, ND, who came to MSU as a football and track walk-on last August, won the triple jump with a 45-5.5 jump, one of the four best marks in the Big Sky this season. Kelsey Kirkpatrick finished third in the women's trkple jump with a mark of 36-10.25.
MSU throwers were outstanding in Pocatello. Megan Lee won the invitational weight throw (57-5), while Carra Greyn was third (56-0.5) and Lynn Craver 4th (55-7.5). Jesse Allen was third in the men's invitational weight throw (58-6.5).
Fresh off a win at last week's Bobcat-Grizzly dual, Jonathan Gibson finished third in the 5000 and fifth in the mile, while Josh Ricardi was fourth in the invitational mile. Caleb Ambrose won the open 3000. Ashley Hadway finished fifth in the women's invitational mile and third in the 5000.
"For our third meet, I thought it was a good outing," said MSU coach Dale Kennedy. "We have one meet less than most of the teams here, and I could see we're still a little behind, but I think we're closing ground."
