Denver Claims NCAA Western Region Title, Bobcats Finish Sixth

The University of Denver captured the team title amassing 560 points. The Pioneers were followed by New Mexico 530, Colorado 486.5, Alaska-Anchorage 449.5, Utah 406.5, Montana State 354, Nevada 334, Whitman 237, Western State 221.5 and Boise State 72.
Harris, a freshman from Lake Tahoe, Calif., recorded a two-run total of 1:38.50. He was followed by Robbie Massie, 16th, 1:41.68; Crister Kjos, 18th, 1:42.22; and Dan McKay, 37th, 2:17.31.
Nevada’s Luke Patterson won the men’s slalom crown with a two-run clocking of 1:37.60.
“Cory had a great day and put himself into a position to qualify for the NCAAs,” said MSU director of skiing, Dan Brelsford. “We went all out today, and ran into a little trouble. Overall, I’m very happy with a sixth place finish and it’s a sign for what we can do in the future.”
The Bobcat women’s slalom team was paced by Chinon Williams, who placed 12th overall with a time of 1:34.32. MSU’s only other finisher in the race was Andrea drew, who placed 21st in a time of 1:41.06.
Denver’s Pia Rivelsrud won the women’s slalom crown with a two-run total of 1:30.46.
MSU’s nordic contingent was led by senior Emily Robins, who finished eighth in the women’s 15-kilometer freestyle race, covering the Bohart Ranch course in a time of 46:09.9. She was followed by Amanda Bowden, 14th, 47:37.2; Frasier Opel, 26th, 50:00.6; Rachel Goldstein, 28th, 50:30.5; Karoline Teien, 30th, 51:21.5; Meredith Gilliland, 34th, 53:19.3; and Laura Johnson, 37th, 55:07.5.
Mandy Kaempf of Alaska-Anchorage won the women’s title in a time of 43:54.7.
The Bobcat men’s nordic squad was led by Nathan Park, who finished 23rd in the 20-kilometer freestyle race in a clocking of 58:13.3. He was followed by Mark Iverson, 29th, 59:17.3; Christian Coe, 30th, 59:28.4; and Ryan Holtan, 33rd, 1:01:24.8.
Dirk Grimm of New Mexico won the men’s freestyle championship in a time of 53:36.4.
