Bobcat Men Second, Women Sixth at League Meet

Distance runner Kevin Clary and pole vaulter Thomas Seely won Big Sky Conference Championships to lead Montana State's men to a second-place finish at the league's indoor track and field championships at Pocatello, Idaho on Saturday.
The finish matched MSU's highest-ever men's team finish in a Big Sky Indoor Championship meet, previously accomplished only in 1991 (also in Pocatello). The Bobcat women were sixth, with Carra Greyn winning the league shot put crown.
"Overall it was a good performance, and I'm very happy that the men's team was able to climb to second," said MSU coach Dale Kennedy. "Carra Greyn had a monster meet, winning the shot put and earning all-conference in the weight throw. Mike Carignan's throwers really had an outstanding meet, as we've all come to expect."
The second place finish by the men's team is even more impressive giving consideration to who didn't perform. Sprinter Steve Heberly missed the second day of competition with a hamstring injury after posting the second-fastest qualifying time in the 200 on Saturday. Sprinter Ty Norris also missed the meet with an injury.
Two women in three separate and five individual men and a relay team earned all-conference honors (breakdown below). Kennedy said that his team's last indoor competition is more of a beginning than an end. "This is a good jumping off point into the outdoor season," he said. "This group of kids is still getting better, and I think we have good things ahead."
