“We had a lot of people contribute,” said MSU head coach Greg Kudrna. “It was a good team effort and I’m really proud of the way the kids battled in the second half.”
Burrows, who was hampered with foul trouble in the first stanza, scored 20 points and hauled down 11 rebounds all in the second half. Also contributing to the Montana State (9-15, 3-8) win was Alyssa Nelson with 13 points, Briana Fields with ten points and nine rebounds and Scotta Morton with ten.
Montana State rallied from a 27-22 halftime deficit, shooting 52 percent from the field in the second period. MSU opened the final stanza on a 10-5 run to tie the score at 32-all following a Nelson three-pointer.
Portland State (2-21, 0-11) regained the lead, before the Bobcats answered to take its first advantage of the second half at 41-39 on a Nelson jumper with 12:28 remaining. PSU tied the game at 43-all on a Heidi Stuart basket with 9:35 left.
Montana State rattled off a 9-2 run over the next two-minutes to secure the win. The stretch was highlighted by four points from Burrows and Fields.
“We weren’t getting to the boards in the first half,” Kudrna said. “I’m very happy with the way our kids responded, especially on the offensive glass.”
The Vikings held an 18-13 advantage under the boards in the first stanza, but Montana State out-rebounded PSU 28-15 in the second period.
Portland State was led in the loss by Stuart with 18 points.
